Solar panels generate clean electricity on your roof, so you buy less power from the utility and see immediate savings on your monthly electric bills.
Generating more of your own electricity can reduce exposure to future rate increases and make long-term energy costs more predictable.
Homes with solar often sell faster and are more attractive to buyers, who value lower utility bills and energy‑efficient features, helping your property stand out in a competitive market.
With little to no moving parts, residential solar systems operate silently and require very little maintenance, especially with professional installation and monitoring from our in-house service team.

Residential solar is a smart long‑term investment for Central Wisconsin homeowners. Whether you want to save money, reduce your environmental impact, or increase the value of your home, a well‑designed solar system can transform how you power your home. The key is finding the right system for your goals, energy needs, budget, and available solar incentives.
Pairing solar with battery storage gives homeowners more control over how they use energy. A solar plus storage system stores excess solar power for later use, reduces reliance on the grid, and can provide backup power during outages. For many Central Wisconsin homeowners, it is a practical way to improve resilience, increase energy independence, and support long-term savings.

Utility rates keep rising. Solar helps homeowners produce more of their own electricity, reduce reliance on the utility, and turn energy spending into a long-term investment. The question is not only what solar costs, but what electricity will cost if you continue doing nothing.

Going solar with Northwind Solar is a guided, step‑by‑step process: from your first call through hand-off and system monitoring.
See our process outlined below. Learn more about what happens on a site assessment.

It starts with a conversation about your goals, budget, and home. We review your last 12 months of electricity usage to understand how and when you use power. Using that data, we estimate system size, production, costs, and available incentives so you can decide whether solar is a good fit before we ever schedule a site visit.
Once the initial numbers make sense, an experienced Solar Design Consultant visits your home. We inspect your roof or proposed ground‑mount location, verify your solar resource, and review your electrical service to design a safe, code‑compliant system for central Wisconsin conditions.
After the site visit, we provide a customized, turnkey solar proposal with system layout, production estimates, incentives, and payback. When you’re ready to move forward, we enter into a purchase agreement, complete interconnection paperwork, and apply for any incentives you qualify for.
Our team handles utility interconnection, permitting, and equipment procurement. Our in‑house installation crew completes the work to National Electrical Code (NEC) standards, paying attention to both electrical details and how the system looks on your home.
We coordinate and attend utility and municipal inspections, then commission your system to ensure it performs as designed. We walk you through how your system works and what to watch for as a new solar owner.
With online monitoring, you and our team can see how your system is performing any day, any time. If something looks off, we can quickly troubleshoot, and if needed, dispatch a service technician. We’ve been providing solar panels in Central Wisconsin for two decades and are here for long‑term support.

Because our team works in this region, we understand local utility programs, permitting requirements, and how solar performs across Wisconsin’s seasons. Whether your home is in town or on a rural property, we can evaluate your site and develop a system proposal tailored to your location and goals.
Beginning in 2026, Focus on Energy is updating their solar rebate offerings so residential solar systems will be eligible to save $600 per kW, up to $2,400.
As a Focus on Energy Trade Ally, Northwind Solar helps you navigate the application process and secure the maximum rebate available for your project.
When your solar panels produce more electricity than your building is using, the excess power flows back into the local grid. Your utility credits your account for that energy, directly lowering your monthly electric bill.
In partnership with the Midwest Renewable Energy Association, the program is available to homeowners, businesses, nonprofits, and property owners in Marathon, Lincoln, Portage, Waushara, Waupaca, and Wood Counties for a limited time. Join a free Solar Power Hour, learn how solar works, and access limited-time group-buy pricing through the program’s selected installer, Northwind Solar.
Wisconsin holds a 100% exemption from sales and use tax for eligible purchases of your solar electric system.
This means you pay no state sales tax (typically ~5-5.6%) on the purchase of qualifying solar components, panels, inverters, and racking. This provides an immediate, upfront reduction in installation costs, saving hundreds of dollars on a typical system.
Disclaimer: Northwind Solar is a solar design and installation expert, not a tax advisor. Incentive details can change, and how they apply depends on your specific situation. We strongly recommend consulting your CPA or tax professional to confirm how these incentives apply to your situation.
